Ms. Darlene Younker has been a familiar face for the last several months at the Payson School Board meetings. She has observed, researched, and asked questions. She has also attended several school events, including a Budget Workshop presented by PUSD Budget Manager Ms. Kathie Manning. A former successful professional business woman, Darlene is passionate about public service, which includes everything from several years of service as a school board member, as well as an EMT/fire fighter, and a volunteer at the Payson Police Department.
Kids, their families, and teachers come first for Darlene. "The money goes to the classroom first." If you have heard her speak, you know that she is determined to take the handcuffs off teachers and let them teach! She believes that parents need to know what their children are learning, and that the local school district should have the greatest control over standards. One size does not fit all.
Darlene’s K-12 education was most unusual. As a "military brat," she attended 18 different schools, including some in foreign countries. Through it all, she maintained a 4.0 average.
She knows what it takes to stay focused, adapting to new circumstances. That focus is on providing the best possible education to the children of Payson.
She is a strong believer in PUSD’s Vision, Mission Statement, and Core Values , and that board decisions should support those goals.
Vision Statement. Every student prepared to be a productive citizen.
Mission Statement. Develop confident, successful and responsible citizens by providing quality education and training in a safe and supportive environment.
Core Values. We believe and demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship
