Vicki Cool, a precinct committeeman with the Gila County Republican Committee, recently wrote a Letter to the Editor of the Payson Round-Up. It was published on April 25, 2014.
Only Fox News covered the Bundy/Nevada controversy, but told only half the story. There are 11 states in the West that never got their land after they got statehood. Arizona is one of them.
If this is an issue you care about, go to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 801-ALC-6622.
You might consider how those who live in New York would pay for their schools if 80 percent of their land was owned and mismanaged by the Forest Service or BLM. Have you ever heard of PILT (payment in lieu of taxes)? They are made by the federal government to the states and are a fraction of what taxes would be were the land held in private ownership.
I guess those of us who live in the West are considered to be too inept to manage and profit from our own land. Perhaps we need to have all western lands covered with those lovely windmills and solar panels. Of course we will get to live with the desert tortoise and Mexican wolves. Those mistakenly endangered species will determine the use of our lands: no copper mining, no lumbering, no ranching, and no fracking. All we get are illegals coming across federal land to use our schools, hospitals, jails, benefits and take our jobs.

American Lands Council President Ken Ivory and Utah Speaker of the House Becky Lockhart have been asked to participate in a debate on the Transfer of Public Lands hosted by the Salt Lake Tribune. The debate will be held on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:00 pm MST at the Salt Lake City Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. (That’s 6:00 pm in Arizona.)

Among the other debaters will be Former Clinton Administration BLM Director Pat Shea. You can watch a previous encounter of Ken Ivory and Pat Shea on TribTalk HERE.
I’m sure that Fox news reporter Dennis Lynch did not anticipate his actions on April 12, 2014. He suddenly realized that Clive Bundy was right. The Bundy family was right. The patriots who stood facing down the BLM thugs with AR-15s were right. No matter what the letter of the law stated, it was an egregious unjust law. And then, Mr. Lynch discovered what he was made of.
Recently, Gila Watch asked you to email Arizona Senators asking them to support two important bills: HB2699 Endangered Species-Program Rescission-Reimbursement and HB2700 …"recover all state lands that have been acquired by the federal government."
The good news is that HB2699 passed. The bad news is that HB2700 failed to pass.
As a precinct committeeman, I visit with citizens. Most are unaware that our country is swiftly being taken over by the federal government agencies made up of unelected bureaucrats who are paid by the taxpayers. This lack of awareness stems from their source of news. These citizens are also unaware that the newspapers they read and most of the television reporting they watch are part of what has truly become the Collectivist Media. For example, the collectivist media did not report one of the most significant events in American history: The Cliven Bundy vs the BLM stand-off. Why? Because the fact that over 2,000 patriotic Americans standing up for individual liberties does not fit the collectivist agenda.
Representatives Bob Thorpe (LD6), Kelly Townsend (LD16), and David Alan Livingston (LD22) and Senators Judy Burges (LD22) and Kelli Ward (LD5) all traveled to Clark County, Nevada, to stand in support of rancher Cliven Bundy.
In light of the situation in Nevada in which the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) took over public lands in Nevada and then tried to force Cliven Bundy to pay onerous grazing fees, which he refused to pay, it is time for all of us to email and call our Arizona Senators to strongly encourage them to vote YES to this bill, and stand up for all Arizona citizens and self-rule.
HB2700 was sponsored by Rep. Bob Thorpe (LD6), who has traveled to Nevada with several other Arizona legislators. A video of his speech at the Arizona Legislature follows this post.
HERE is a link to the Fact Sheet for HB2700.
You can find the email addresses and phone numbers of all Senators HERE. You are probably wasting your time to email Democrats. Every Demcrat in the House voted NO, and I would be surprised if the Democrats in the Senate would step out of line.
If you would like to see the Vote Detail on how the Legislators have voted previously on HB2700, in various Committees and the House, click HERE.
This bill is a good first step. We also must join other Western states to take our lands back from the federal government. See American Lands Council, as well as an Op-Ed written by Shirley Dye titled "Tying Statehood and Educational Funding Together.
