Constitution Week USA – Gilbert – September 16-23

Constitution Week USA is both an educational opportunity and a celebration of the United States Constitution of America, which was signed on September 17, 1787.  Constitution Week has taken place in Gilbert since it was founded by John Lewis in 2002.  Lewis is the current Mayor of Gilbert.

On August 2, 1956, Congress requested that the President of the United States proclaim the week beginning September 17 and ending September 23 of each year as "Constitution Week."

This year’s Gilbert celebration begins September 16 with Scout Night, which provides an opportunity for scouts to obtain citizenship merit badges.  Another Scout Night occurs on September 23.  Both events occur at Mesquite Jr. High School, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm.  For more information and to register, click HERE.

Religious Convictions of America’s Founders: George Read

"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor."  Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776

George Read.  Read was the only signer of the Declaration of Independence who voted against it on July 2, 1776.  He and Thomas McKean were deadlocked on the vote for independence. To break the deadlock, Caesar Rodney rode the 80-mile journey to Philadelphia thereby allowing Delaware to join 11 other states voting in favor of the resolution of independence.  Read was not unfriendly to the liberties of his country, nor cowardly or selfish.  He simply thought the move to be premature and unwise. Ultimately, he rejoiced that his fears were groundless and affixed his signature to the Declaration, alongside Thomas McKean and Caesar Rodney.

Please Make Phone Calls to Stop Obama’s Unconstitutional Amnesty! Don’t Stop Making those Phone Calls!

Please call Congress, your Arizona legislators, the Governor, and the Governor-Elect on Friday, November 21 and every day thereafter, until the following message sinks in:

Congress:

"The Constitution gives Congress the power of the purse.  I expect the Republicans in Congress to use it and defund anything connected with executive orders Obama issues regarding immigration.  What action will you be taking on this issue?"

Arizona Legislators, Governor Brewer, and Governor-Elect Ducey:

"On Nov. 4, Arizonans approved Prop 122 , an amendment to the Arizona Constitution to reject unconstitutional federal actions.   On Nov. 20, Barack Obama illegally granted amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.  Not only is this an unconstitutional federal action, but it will also cost Arizona citizens incalculable taxpayer dollars. You are the firewall between Arizona citizens and a lording Obama.  What actions do you intend to take?"

Follows is a list of those you should call.  Be polite and be brief.  You might be talking to a 20- year old intern who will only be answering the phone and keeping track of the calls.

Remembrance Day – 11/11/2014 at 11:00 am – Payson High School Auditorium

For years, I have been seeing disturbing signs in America with this message:  "America is evil.  We’re the bad guys."  I see it in our K-12 public school system, on the evening news, in the mainstream print media, in our universities, and in films.

On the eve of Veterans Day, Salon.com published an especially insulting article denigrating our service men and women.  I won’t give credit to their disgusting blog.  You can look it up if you wish.

America is not perfect.  It is filled with imperfect human beings.  But we are blessed to live in a country that was founded on the idea of freedom.  Thousands of American men and women have died for that idea.  They deserve to be honored!

Federal Land Managers’ Intimidation, Bullying Threaten Citizens Rights, Create a Hostile Environment

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 24, 2014 – Today, the Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulations held an oversight hearing on “Threats, Intimidation and Bullying by Federal Land Managing Agencies.” This hearing continued Committee oversight into bullying by federal land management agencies and federal law enforcement agencies on private, state, and federal lands.

State and local governments, ranchers, business owners, and private citizens have been subject to threats, lack of cooperation, and numerous unfair or heavy-handed tactics which threaten public safety, the environment, endangered species, and the livelihoods of communities. Congressional oversight is necessary to provide an effective check on federal officials who abuse their regulatory powers.

“Today we took a second look at threats, intimidation and bullying by Federal Land Managing Agencies. During a hearing the Committee held last year and again today, we heard first-hand accounts of mistreatment at the hands of federal officials seeking to extort the witnesses into relinquishing their property rights,” said Representative Doug LaMalfa (CA-01). “These firsthand accounts  give the victims of abusive conduct by a federal land managing official a chance to tell their story to Congress. Status quo agency oversight, policies and procedures are inadequate for addressing or deterring employee abuses and may instead embolden overreaching or malicious employee behavior with little risk of retribution for their actions.”

Witnesses highlighted examples of flagrant intimidation met by citizens who refuse to surrender their constitutional rights, land and water rights, grazing permits and other multiple-use benefits.

Sheriff James Perkins, Garfield County, UT, highlighted his perspective from 27 years of law enforcement and experience working with various federal law enforcement agencies.

“BLM’s attitude towards coordinating with local law enforcement is summed up best by a conversation I had with a BLM law enforcement officer while we were attending a drug task force meeting in Cedar City, Utah. He told me point blank that he didn’t care about any authority that I thought I had as the Garfield County Sheriff, and that he did not feel like he had to coordinate anything through my office… This refusal to coordinate, coupled with a lack of any meaningful oversight, has created a perfect environment where the abuse of federal law enforcement powers can occur.”
